Oh, Yeah Man....

I was in New Orleans in 2001 and got to see a celebration party honoring Sun Ra's birthday at Tipitina's.
What a good time that was... funky and freaky jazz.

We travel the spaceways....from planet...to planet.

Love that whacked out brilliant Jazz...

For years, I've searched for a copy of Pharoah Saunders' Music of Lower and Upper Egypt - ask Iggy why?????

hey blue.... well at least i know there's one person that is receptive to things slightly outside the box around here -- frankly, i listen to way too much GD -- well, i have a lot of ground to make up, seeing as from about 1995 to 2005 i listened to essentially ZERO dead music. after 2 plus years now of near full-immersion i haven't actually started burning out on it either.

listening to other music is vital to keeping the interest alive however.... so, glad you appreciate it....

i was gonna give you a couple more tracks from Atlantis but mediafire seems really slow right now....

sun ra made bunches of albums -- but if you aren't familiar, check out Heliocentric Worlds Vol 1 & 2, My Brother the Wind, Cosmic Tones for Mental Therapy, Nubians of Plutonia, Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra, and from the later years Languidity is especially good.... but wow, there are SO MANY albums. the first 15 or 20 actually sound like a traditional, although off-kilter jazz band (late 50's - mid 60s) -- and then in the mid '60s things start getting really weird....

considering the amount and obscurity of many of the releases, THE SUN RA legacy is one of the few American Musics to rival The Grateful Dead in its depth, importance and ability to provide a basis for a lifetime of SCHOLARLY INVESTIGATION.
